Site Search Help

This information will help you understand how the Site Search on your website works with the information you enter for each page on your website.  These guidelines are based on our standard setup of your Site Search.  We can vary your specific settings based on your requirements.

All websites using Site Search will be updated monthly and can be updated on request.  Currently the Recommended Links feature has not be implemented in most websites but will be soon.  Don't let this stop you from preparing your website for using Recommended Links.

Keyword:  Keywords are used to build Recommended Links at the top of your search results.  For example, if you enter "car" as a keyword and somebody includes the word "car" in their search, a Recommended Link will be displayed at the top of the search results pointing to this page.  Up to 3 Recommended Links will be displayed using the Page Title and Page Description fields.  Keywords are used by the search engine when assigning a score to this page.  Keywords are given a +5 weight.

Page Title:  The Page Title is displayed in the Recommended Link section of your search results.  The Page Title is used by the search engine when assigning a score to this page.  The Page Title is giving a +3 weight.

Page/Meta Description:  The Page/Meta Description is displayed in the Recommended Link section of your search results.  The Page/Meta Description is used by the search engine when assigning a score to this page.  The Page/Meta Description is given a +1 weight.

Body: The Body or your page, known also as the main content,  is used by the search engine when assigning a score to this page.  The Body is given a 0 (Normal) weight.

Page Name:  When you create a page you give it a Name.  This Name is used by the search engine when assigning a score to this page.  The Page Name is given a +1 weight.

Link & Image Titles (Alt Text):  Link & Image Titles are used by the search engine when assigning a score to this page.  Link & Image Titles are given a 0 (Normal) weight.

Definitions:

1.  Weight - The Search Engine can give different parts of your website different priorities.  We have set our standards for assigning priorities and noted them above.  0 (zero) is a mid line priority with +1 being a higher priority and -1 being a lower priority.  These settings can be customized for your website if needed.
